FORREST J. ACKERMAN - DEADICATION

The FANTASTIC FILMS OF RAY HARRYHAUSEN web site is dedicated to Forrest J Ackerman. I can not imagine what my adolescence would have been like without this man. Each month his FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND was a welcome connection to the rest of the world of horror, sci-fi and fantasy fans keeping me posted on the new movies coming out as well as reminding me of the joys of the older films.

Forry is responsible for introducing Ray Harryhausen to Ray Bradbury and the three have been life-long friends. His love and dedication to the genre is evidenced by his undying devotion to the films and those of us who have been lucky enough to anticipate what Dr. Acula had to say next. He fulfilled our wishes with You Axed For It and gave us more articles and pictures than any genre magazine in print today.

My desire to actually meet Forry was met in Omaha Nebraska during the event celebrating the 65th Anniversary of King Kong. I had met him before at conventions where I got to shake his hand and tell him thank you, but in Omaha I actually got to spend real time with him talking about the magazine, movies and many other things. I can tell you that the passion for these films is not gone, it's as strong as ever.

Today Forry writes for a number of magazines, including Scarlet Street and Cult Movies among others. Sadly he is no longer involved with FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND. Publisher Ray Ferry and Forry had personal differences that led to Forry being dismissed from the magazine. It may say Famous Monsters on the cover but it's not the same magazine without Forry.

Forry can be seen appearing and conventions all over the world and he's still a favorite among fans. He also still maintains the Ackermansion, in Horrorwood Karloffornia (or to the uninitiated Hollywood California). He still gives tours that are open to the public when he isn't on the road making a convention appearance.

Thank you Forry for helping keep the dreams of a young boy alive, for pointing me in the direction of the classics and not so classic horror films and showing me that, no matter how old I get, I'm never too old to admit that I love the films that you introduced me to.

Forrest J Ackerman stopped by the site and took the time to award it as one of his favorite sites. This is quite an honor for me since Forry has been an icon of mine for quite some time. Thanks Forry!!!

Still under construction, but this promises to be an interesting addition to the internet. The site is being set up in conjunction to the upcoming cd-rom release that promises to include tons of graphics and information on the Ackermuseum that has been of interest to fans of the genre for years.

HELP STOP THE MADNESS

Dynacom magazines, under the supervision of RAY FERRY, resurrected the FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND magazine which included Forry up until 1995. Since Forry's departure from the magazine, Ray Ferry has publicly been denegrating the good name of Forry while stealing items associated with Forry since the original Famous Monsters. Mr. Ferry blatantly uses Forry's YOU AXED FOR IT, DR. ACULA, and even HORRORWOOD, KARLFORNIA among others claiming he owns the trademarks to these. All of this is in the hands of lawyers right now, but the cost of the legal suit is mounting for Forry as he struggles to regain that which is rightfully his.

HOW CAN YOU HELP! First and foremost-DO NOT...I repeat DO NOT support the current FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND magazine. Ferry doesn't deserve to make a penny off of Forry's creation. Secondly, visit Forry's website and let him know that you are behind his efforts. For everything that Forry has given us over the years, it's the least we can do for him.
